The Trust for Public Land is convening a community engagement process to invite the public to help us reimagine the future of our 157-acre San Geronimo property. The Trust for Public Land envisions a landscape that is safe, inclusive and accessible-to-all. Through the engagement process, The Trust for Public Land will work to identify the best ways to protect, connect and restore an important community resource in the heart of Marin County.
Protect
The project will preserve the property as open space, and will lay the foundation for climate resiliency. It will prioritize fire safety. The project will provide safe access to schools.
Connect
The project will ensure access for all and provide continuous and safe regional trail connections to Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. It will serve as the Gateway to West Marin and reconnect the San Geronimo Valley across Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. The property will continue to serve as a social hub by building amenities that bring the community together.
Restore
The project will focus on restoring the region’s biodiversity for climate resiliency. It will restore the Bay Area’s last great salmon run, and the Lagunitas Creek watershed. It will complete critical wildlife linkages by creating and enhancing wildlife corridors.
Location
The San Geronimo property is an ecological treasure in the heart of West Marin. It links to over 100,000 acres of contiguous public open space from the Golden Gate to Point Reyes.
The 157-acre property is situated in the San Geronimo Valley, and framed by rolling hillsides. It is surrounded by Marin County open space preserves such as Roy’s Redwoods and French Ranch, and beyond that large swaths of state and national park lands. Miles of regional trails begin at the property boundary.
The property falls within the Lagunitas Creek Watershed, with Larsen Creek running through the northern park of the property and San Geronimo Creek running through the southern part of the property.
Sir Francis Drake Boulevard is the major arterial road that serves as the primary access route to the property and gateway to West Marin. Nicasio Valley Road, San Geronimo Valley Drive, East Sylvestris Drive, and Meadow Way are other smaller roads in close vicinity. There are regional trails that run along the periphery of the property linking it to nearby regional open space preserves and local schools.
